more abstract, forward thinking house music courtesy of transatlantyk. mondo hehe is the fifth ep in a growing catalogue of the label and is one of its most adventurous offerings yet. lutto lento (real name lubomir grzelak) is an experimental musician from warsaw, poland, who specialises in dark, spooky, uneasy music that s hard to categorise. apart from running two experimental cassette only labels (sangoplasmo and dunno recordings), lutto lento records music for contemporary theatre and forward thinking european labels like ftd and where to now? he is equally inspired by avant-garde and surreal sounds from the bygone eras as well as raw house and techno music of today. his music tends to absorb the listener into a parallel, imaginary world, where sounds of a lamenting cry of a trumpet (b2) and a voice counting numbers on top of the rolling exotica style bongos (a2) are as important as jacking chicago house drums (b1) and energetic basslines (a3). from the jumping beats of the title track, to the late night deep roller casino , the * mondo hehe ep* is a superb collection of non-generic house music that sounds as good at a club, as it does at home.

original rio beach boy marcos valle returns with a brazilian masterpiece. evoking his carioca sound - where expansive orchestral sweep meets beautiful melody and complex harmony - valle mixes perfect romantic bossa-pop with cinematic brass and strings. this new recording explores a six decade career that has swung between pop, bossa nova, delicate psychedelia, jazz, and funk. responsible for bossa classic >summer samba (so nice)< valle has collaborated with leon ware, sarah vaughan, & chicago, seen his track >ele e ela< sampled by jay z for blueprint 3, and his songs recorded by the likes of frank sinatra and bebel gilberto.

amsterdam native mr mendel continues to churn out top notch edits at a steady pace in between crate digging and gigs around the world. this second 12 inch for basic fingers is a welcome follow up to his previous release which featured fela & gil. on release no.28 he s dug even deeper than last time and found not one, two or three but four absolute killer songs to take his razor sharp blade to. no messing around, mr mendel aims straight for the top with these joyful disco cuts.

welcoming the fourth vinyl only instalment from farfromnormal features an excellent 3 track ep from the up and coming julian. after a long process julian has come up with 3 great original tracks which farfromnormal where happily to take on board and put together julian s very first vinyl release. this record grabs your attention from the start with track 1 resorave. resorave is a very psychedelic track with dark drums and beautiful slow atmospheres and a tripping vocal. track 2 grunge is much more on the groovy side to with fantastic production and pads that take you on a great journey. track 3 chorale is the title track and the one track to leave you on a high, with the heavy kicks and bass lines mixing between a tripping vocal and beautifully placed instruments, this is perfect for the peak hours.

oltrarno is an ancient neighborhood of florence where merchants, artisans and artists were struggling against the sleepiness for centuries. the first release of oltrarno recordings is called *worlds*, produced by the florence - berlin based o.r. crew and dedicated to explore the different shades of clubbing music.

andré laos second act on let s play house is a continuation of his first. like roundabout, nordic delight (the guy hails from gothenburg, so you can guess where the title originated), is sunny and bright piano laden house that s as melodious as it is layered and ornate. unlike that ep, though, this one really revolves around one track stroganoff which is presented in three different forms: a vocal mix, a piano stew dub, and a remix from anton klint of tiedye. supplementing and equalizing those is kalops, the 12inches second original.

we had no choice but to bring back our friend kiko navarro after the success of the new life ep released on local talk earlier this year. isao is kiko at his finest, a beautiful and hypnotic house track that has the perfect blend of afro and latin elements with a bouncy electronic edge. theres also a mighty fine remix coming from jose marquez. jose develops the vocal elements and brings in a whole orchestra of drums taking the track in a sweatier direction. kiko also delivers a koki dub where he continues on the same vibe and adds strings complimented by shakers and percussions throughout the track.

drumma records presents its second collaboration with romanian duo vinyl speed adjust (vsa). the ep titled the awakening shows us vsas intelligent approach to music, an ideal fit at drumma records where creatively effervescent music is embraced with open arms. the record has 4 tracks. the eponymous the awakening is a special trip between break rhythms, modern jazz and a dreamy perpetual arpeggio. it creates a great mood for artists who want to present something special during their set. a2 is the grind, a very strong and acid track with a powerful evolving bassline that creates perfect suspense. inspired by the 90s, its raw and its analogue, definitely a hot track. monoxide comes with a linear rhythmic pattern and a very deep sub-bass sound fused with trippy synth soundscapes, ideal to put in a mental note during a session. the release is topped off with an amazing remix by the great valentino kanzyani. hes brought his own approach to the grind. the remix is a track with very strong groove and an intelligent evolution that creates small sonic worlds at every turn. valentino knows how to masterfully work a constant crescendo where tension and rest is perfectly resolved and we can feel his approach to techno at its best.
